Sitting on the equator, Nairobi hands you a sunrise and a sunset within minutes of the same clock all year. No long European summer evenings to stretch a schedule into, and no excuse for missing the window either. It arrives when it says it will.

What moves is everything else. The long rains push a shoot indoors with about fifteen minutes of warning. Dust in the dry months does something to a long lens that no filter sells you. And a call sheet that ignores Mombasa Road at half five is a call sheet that becomes fiction by six.

We plan two golden hours into every schedule now: the early one for wides, the late one for faces. The middle of the day goes to interiors and to the work nobody sees.

None of this is a complaint. Light this reliable is a gift most crews never get.
